SYSTEMS
ANALYSIS USING SIGNAL LEVEL MEASUREMENTS
Target
Audience
Engineers and technicians working with RF planning divisions and evaluating
wireless communication systems quality.
Pre-requirements
Basic knowledge of RF propagation and communication systems. Because
CelPlanner™
works on a PC platform, we recommend that students have previous knowledge
of Windows systems and Excel spreadsheets.
Goals
Present a methodology for measuring signal level in field surveys for
further processing. Show measurements used for evaluating system quality
and/or for validating prediction models propagation parameters calibration.
Course
Syllabus
This course is divided in two parts: theoretical and practical, performing
a field survey for further processing using CelTools™
.
Theory
- Characteristics
of the service area affecting RF propagation;
- Fading and signal
level prediction models;
- Signal level
measurement techniques in outdoor and indoor environments;
- Definition of
radio base stations and routes to be used in field survey;
- Activation of
channels in measured sites and blocking these channels in neighbor
sites;
- Use of GPS (global
positioning system);
- Technique for
locating points using differential GPS;
- Scanner radio
programming: signal level filters and short fading.
Practice
- Field survey;
- Measurement processing:
conversion of formats and application of filters;
- Analysis of measurements
over geo-referenced map;
- Predictions,
using mathematical models, and comparison of measurements.
