CelPlan software-defined solutions diagnose wireless networks performance for all standard technologies, from 2G to 5G. The solution has an excellent cost/benefit ratio as it uses the same hardware for both spectrum analysis and technology scanning.

The concept of wireless network transmission is related to the transfer of data and information without the use of an electrical conductor; this can happen in different environments from very short to very long distances with specific technologies more suitable to each particular case.

Today, the most common technologies used for wireless transmission are LTE, LTE-Advanced, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (the most used standard in the world). All present in a diversity of devices and contexts: from cellphones to GPS, to satellite TV, and to the newest trend, the Internet of Things (IoT).

By the year 2023, there will be 5.3 billion global Internet users according to Cisco Annual Report. Keep this demand in mind, it is easy to see how it is important to properly assess a wireless network performance, to correct possible failures and optimize the system. Today users expect, at a minimum, high transfer rates everywhere and at all times.

For this reason CelPlan added two products to the solutions to help our clients to assess the performance and quality of their wireless networks. Learn a little more about each of them below.

Testing wireless networks

First of all, we need to consider that wireless networks and high-speed data transmission are now a crucial part of our daily routine, at home and at work. Just think of activities such as surfing the Internet, using email or VoIP services and even participating in chats or virtual meetings, which are increasingly common.

CelPlan’s suite of test equipment is a perfect solution for diagnosing and repairing problems in wireless networks, in the universe of 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G technologies from 100 MHz to 30 GHz, and higher frequencies with use of downconverter.

CellSpectrum ™ spectrum analyzer and CellScanner ™ technology scanner are software-defined tools that offer measurement and prediction capabilities to make the data transfer experience the best it can be. All of this synchronized with graphics, to allow users to analyze errors, as well as to locate them geographically.

Shall we talk more about each of these excellent alternatives?

CellSpectrum™

The frequency bands used in commercial wireless networks has been steadily increasing to accommodate the demand for data transfer rates that are also increasing; requiring additional testing for each new band. New companies in the wireless market or existing carriers that are adding 5G to their portfolio can make great use of CellSpectrum ™ to check spectrum availability and doing a complete scan to locate areas with interference.

The scanned spectrum is retrieved from a software-defined radio receiver – CellDigitizer ™, with a stipulated set of markers within the supported frequency bands. A real combo in a small and portable format, which can be packaged for transport and drive testing in a rigid travel case.

CellSpectrum™ can also be used to collect continuous wave (CW) samples via drive test for use in propagation model calibration.

The use of CellSpectrum™ brings benefits such as:

  • Test mode that allows recording of spectrum;
  • Reproduction of recorded spectrum traces;
  • Calculation of channel power and range (user selectable);
  • Collection of georeferenced samples;
  • Export of ASCII type files;
  • No overlap when selecting the RBW and amplitude;
  • Traces of maximum, average, current and minimum values;
  • Graphics marks;
  • Zoom in and zoom out features in graphics.

CellScanner™ supports GSM, UMTS and LTE and 5G. And just like CellSpectrum ™, it has an excellent cost/benefit ratio, since there is no need to worry about further upgrades.

The main advantages of CellScanner™ include:

  • Spectrum recording in test mode;
  • Reproduction of recorded spectrum traces;
  • Calculation of channel power and range (user selectable);
  • The collected samples are georeferenced;
  • Export of ASCII type files;
  • No overlap when selecting the RBW and amplitude;
  • Traces of maximum, average, current and minimum values;
  • Graphics marks;
  • Zoom in and zoom out features in graphics.
